TOOFAN MOVIE REVIEW

Though Ram Charan  had established him  self as one of the top heroes in the Telugu industry  with a majority of his films were super hits. However, he had dared  to try his hands in a Hindi flick with a blockbuster hit of Bollywood and Big B's film Zanjeer's remake. The film was made in Hindi and Telugu, simultaneously, with some of the characters in the Telugu remake were played by Telugu artistes like Srihari and Thanikella Bharani, while the villain's role was played by Prakash Raj who is well known for the Hindi audiences too. Why the Hindi remake retained the original title, the Telugu remake was named as 'Toofan'.

toofan movie review

Vijay Khanna (Ram Charan) is a sincere police officer. His honesty makes him travel all over the state in the name of transfers. At last he reached Mumbai where oil mafia rules. Rudra Pratap teja (Prakashraj) is king behind that mafia. Maala (Priyanka Chopra) comes from US to India to attend friend’s wedding.Accidentally she sees a murder here. Vijay takes up the responsibility of protecting the witness(Maala). Vijay’s investigation of the murder case leads him to a crucial information about oil mafia activities, involving crores of money. How Vijay reveals oil mafia’s illegal activities and how he nabs Rudra Pratap Teja is the theme of the story. Vijay has a flashback which is also an important part of the story.

This is the remake of Bollywood’s  Blockbuster Zanjeer. Oil mafia concept is newly included. The role which shaped up Amitab Bachan as Angry Young man has also helped Charan to some extent. It appears Bollywood has got a new action hero in the form of Charan. Though Charan’s look is not new, he succeeded in maintaining serious tempo.
If some one compares it with old Zanjeer, then sure it’s going to be no way near the original. There is nothing new in storyline or presentation in this movie according to todays trend. We have seen the story of a honest cop fighting a mafia don number of times earlier. The whole story revolves around only one line “ oil mafia”. Even that was not presented in a newly. Degrading villain to a joker’s level after showing very ferociously in the beginning is evident even in this flick. Sherkhan character touches hearts of audience in old Zanjeer. In the new flick we don’t understand why enmity and friendship develops between Vijay Khanna and Sher khan.

Another big minus for this flick is dubbing look. It appears like a Hindi movie dubbed in Telugu. Missing telugu nativity is one of the backdrop. How beautiful a girl may be, if camera doesn’t show her beautifully, all her beauty gets wasted. Priyanka Chopra is not an exception to that rule. The whole movie runs in a serious mood. It may be suitable for Bollywood audience but not for Telugu audience. We need all elements like glamour and comedy in a movie. Both are missing in this movie. The only relief in the movie is double meaning dialogues between Prakashraj and vamp. The only department which deserves praise in the movie is dialogues. Audience who watch for Charan’s fights and dance will be disappointed.
Aa people say Bollywood taking will be excellent. Even that’s not visible in this flick. Movie doesn’t have any superb action sequences or technically brilliant episodes. From where will it get action look with all the needed elements missing? How will Charan get angry young man image? Technically the movie is not on par with the names associated with it. Re-recording was also not so impressive.
As a whole Thoofan is just an average flick from a promising young hero like Charan.
